Development Land For Sale

1. Digby Development Agency

town of DigbyOur land assets are managed by the Digby Development Agency, an inter-municipal body made up of the municipality of the District of Digby and the Town of Digby.

Digby has 3 attractive development zones available:

2. Airport Zone

This area comprises 183 acres in the North Range area, conveniently adjacent the Digby-Annapolis Regional Airport:

Municipal Airport

Within this zone, there is Airport Industrial (AI) zoning, Airport Residential (AR), and Airport Residential/Commercial (ARC), each with adequate separation to allow for a wide variety of uses. This area is un-serviced and undeveloped at this time. There is some hangar infrastructure present, and the DDA is open to proposals on a Design-Build basis.

3. Industrial Drive

Industrial Drive

This site is approximately 22 acres in area and is generally located south of Highway 217 and is bounded by industrial lots, residential lots, and institutional uses. At this time, the area is approximately 60% occupied. The remaining available lands (in yellow) total roughly 10 acres and are surrounded with streets that include municipal services including sanitary sewer, water distribution system, overhead electrical (3 phase on Industrial Drive), and paved roads with roadside ditches and culverts for drainage.

A watermain and forcemain has been installed through the center of the project area connecting Shreve Street to Industrial Drive and an easement is in place to protect this corridor. There are three wastewater pumping stations near the site, one at the end of Shreve Street, one on Highway 217, and one at intersection of Industrial Drive/Highway 217. The area is zoned Industrial M under the Conway Area Land Use Bylaw where a wide range on nonpolluting and appropriate commercial uses can be developed.

4. Digby Business Park (North)

Industrial Park

This parcel (PID 3013066) is consists of 171 acres of un-serviced, primarily wooded land. Land use for that area is governed by Digby Wellfield Protection Area Land Use By-Law, Digby Wellfield Protection Area MPS which restricts uses on roughly 55% of the parcel. Nonetheless, there remains excellent frontage on Highway 217, and approximately 77 acres of raw land not subject to the by-law.

Fishermen's Memorial Park

Fishermen's Memorial Park, located on Maiden Lane, was dedicated in 2002 to offer the community a place to remember and honor Digby Area FIshers who were lost at sea. The memorial will stand as a lasting tribute for many generations to come.

On the third Sunday in September the Mayor and Council will hold an annual ceremony to honor those fishers who were lost.

If you would like to have a loved one's name that was lost at sea inscribed at Fishermen's Memorial Park download the form below and return to the Town Hall.

I am Cuban and I have the privilege of participating in the 10th edition of the Canada World Youth Project. What has served me a lot during my stay here is that it has permitted me an exchange with the community, with other cultures, and another language. All this will serve me well for my professional life, because it has also contributed to better fortify my principles and convictions. I find myself working at this time at the Town Hall, an office of great importance for the community of Digby, where I feel very well in company of the marvelous people who work here. Thanks for welcoming us in this work placement and for teaching us new things. Thanks to the community for its support. Thanks to the families for their welcome and hospitality. Thanks to the Canada World Youth Project for existing. Thanks to everyone, that in one form or another, have interacted and aided us.

I would like to thank the Town of Digby for hosting our program. We have been welcomed warmly by all we have had the pleasure of meeting. I would like to thank everyone at the Town Hall for creating such a caring and generous work placement. I would also like to thank our host families for opening their homes to us and contributing to the success of our program in so many ways. My time with the program in Digby has enabled me to grow as a person while strengthening my personal beliefs and convictions. Digby is a beautiful and warm-hearted town and I look forward to the next two months as we become more involved in the community.

Places to Eat

First Stop: Digby

Two hundred and thirty-five kilometres from Halifax, one hundred kilometres from Yarmouth, is the small town of Digby, a worthwhile stop along the Evangeline Trail. Check out the waterfront street and its array of shops and restaurants.

A Must-Try: World-Famous Digby Scallops

Looking for succulent scallops? Digby is home to the world's largest inshore scallop fleet along the eastern seaboard.
Digby overlooks both the Annapolis Basin and Digby Gut. Memorial Look-Off on Water Street in downtown Digby, affords a good view of the scallop fleet and marina area.

Area restaurants certainly believe in the claim Scallop Capital. Good scallop dishes are included on many menus - pan-fried scallops, scallop sandwiches, scallop chowder. Other local specialties include fresh Lobster, dulce, Grundy and Digby Chicks, just to name a few!.

Enjoy the Admiral's Walk on the waterfront.

Digby holds the Scallop Days Festival in early August each year, and offers a variety of activities for all ages, including scallop shucking contests and a parade.

Digby Chicks is a name used for smoked herring in Digby, Nova Scotia because they once replaced chicken for Christmas dinner for impoverished early settlers.
