Councillor Jean Brittain

Jean grew up in Digby and attended Acadia University following high school graduation. With degrees in Arts and Education, she taught for several years before leaving the classroom to return home to get involved in several business ventures. During those years, she became a member of the first non-government board of the Nova Scotia Community College.

Having a life-long interest in politics, Jean was successful in securing a Town Council seat in a 1996 by-election. She has since been elected to three additional Council terms. The current term will be completed in 2012.

Jean presently serves as Chair of the Digby Area Recreation Commission, the MEDIC Committee and the Planning Advisory Committee. As part of her Council duties, she also serves on Waste Check and the Western Counties Regional Library Board. She is a firm believer in transparency, accountability and the need for Council to be a good steward of the taxpayers’ money.
