Town Of Digby Integrated Community
Sustainability Plan Initiative
In April 2009 the
Town launched an effort to prepare an “Integrated Community Sustainability
Plan”, commonly referred to as an “ICSP”.
This new strategic document will set forward a long term vision for
growth and development of the Town with a focus of “sustainability”. The process of preparing the plan has been
entitled “Charting Our Future”.
The preparation of
an ICSP is a requirement of the Federal/Provincial Gas Tax Program. The Gas Tax Program has been set up to have a
portion of the revenues generated by the Federal Gas Tax be provided directly
to the Town to support capital investments which serve to enhance critical
infrastructure and related sustainability initiatives.
The principle upon
which sustainability planning is based focus on the development of policies,
programs and actions which provide positive outcomes with respect to the
economic, social, cultural and environmental growth of our community – both now
and into the indefinite future. The ICSP
is a long range strategic plan which looks 20 to 30 years into the future and
which provides for a decision-making framework which can guide the growth of
our Town.
The process of
preparing the Town’s ICSP is being overseen by the Town’s Planning Advisory
Committee. The ICSP preparation process
seeks to incorporate significant public input and participation. Meeting of the Planning Advisory Committee are
open to the public and a series of public information meetings will be held as
part of the plan preparation process.
The opinions of Town
residents are critical to the success of the planning efforts so everybody is
encouraged to get involved! Watch this
site for more information or contact the Town Office for more information.
Remember – Your
Opinion Counts when it comes to Charting Our Future!
The
meetings will be held at the Digby Fire
Hall, 163 First Avenue.
